The Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugás has finally achieved his long-held dream of bringing his mother to live with him in the United States. "Thank God, my mom and family from Cuba have arrived. It's such an enormous blessing, but it feels so surreal; I'm still processing it and can't quite believe it," Ugás expressed in a video shared on his Facebook page.
On their first night in the country, Ugás and his mother shared a room because the other rooms in his apartment were occupied by two cousins who also made the journey. He joked about needing to buy a new place because they are running out of space. "A few years ago, my close friends, my brother, and my beautiful nephews began arriving. In these 14 years, I've had two wonderful women in my life who became family, and I will always be grateful for the times we shared. But having my mom, Milagros, is something entirely different," he emphasized.
The boxer revealed that several years ago, he purchased a beachfront apartment specifically for his mother, who he describes as a "daughter of Yemayá." Since leaving Cuba 14 years ago, Ugás spent nearly nine years without seeing his mother due to the punishment imposed by the Cuban regime for pursuing his dreams abroad.
"I've spent years traveling to Panama and Mexico because I couldn't go to Cuba to see my family, but I was growing tired of it," he stated. "I feel incredibly grateful and blessed. If you're newly arrived or have only been in this country for a short time and things aren't going well, don't lose hope, please. Be patient and smart. Take it from someone who thought he would become a champion in two to three years, but it took ten," Ugás advised.
