Friday, November 1, 2024 by Elizabeth Alvarado

On TikTok, a young Latino known as @jotaisac has garnered viral attention by sharing what he humorously calls the "real American dream." With a touch of irony and laughter, the TikToker highlights his tired appearance and remarks, "Sure, come to the United States... come on over," before detailing how the demanding work life in the U.S. has taken its toll on him, with long hours and little sleep.

He jokingly describes Americans as "walking like zombies," revealing that his new lifestyle leaves no room for sleep or a social life, with people moving around like robots. His followers didn't hesitate to share their thoughts and experiences, flooding the video with comments. Some found humor in the situation, saying, "I'm a zombie in Chile too, it's the same here!" or "That's why it's called the 'American dream,' because we don't sleep," while others advised him not to complain too much. "Don't complain, at least here you can buy what you need," one user retorted, to which @jotaisac replied with a laugh, "That's what they say."

Some challenged him to return if it was so tough, or remarked that work is demanding everywhere. "If it's so hard, why are you there?" someone asked, receiving a sarcastic response from @jotaisac: "To run an errand." Others sympathized, suggesting that every effort eventually pays off. Among the myriad of comments, one summed up what many were thinking: "That's the true American dream... always sleepy."

The video has received thousands of likes and sparked a conversation about the realities of work and sacrifice in the pursuit of a better life, illustrating that for some, the "American dream" is not all it's cracked up to be.
