Thursday, October 31, 2024 by Joseph Morales

Yair Miranda, known on TikTok as @yairmiranda123, decided to address one of the most common questions he receives: “How much money have I saved in the five years I've lived in the United States?” In his video, Yair revealed that during his first year, he was unable to save any money due to the expenses associated with moving to the country. However, over the next four years, he managed to save between $14,000 and $15,000 annually, totaling around $60,000.

To achieve this savings, Yair shared that he made several sacrifices, such as sleeping in his living room to keep his rent at a mere $200, and spending only on essential items. Despite his efforts, Yair confessed that he no longer has access to these savings because he entrusted his family back in his home country, who ended up spending the money.

Surprising Reactions and Mixed Emotions

The online community was quick to react to Yair's story. Many expressed disbelief and some responded with humor. Comments like “You had $60,000” and “I saved a million dollars in five years” highlighted the astonishment of some viewers. Others questioned the significance of the amount saved: “60 grand is too little for five years” and “Only $14k a year? That’s not good.”

Several users shared their own struggles and experiences with saving money in the U.S. One user remarked, “I’ve been here 20 years and saved nothing,” while another pointed out, “He only pays $200 for rent, I pay $1200 because I have two kids.”

Trust Issues and Financial Advice

Some people empathized with Yair's situation regarding family trust, saying, “It’s tough when family robs you.” Meanwhile, others offered financial advice, suggesting he invest his money instead of merely saving it: “Money shouldn’t just be saved, my friend, it should be invested to grow...”

Amid the serious discussions, a few focused on the more humorous aspects, like the details of his meal in the video, jokingly commenting, “I noticed the door has a feather” and “Take the feather off your chicken. Haha.”
