Cuban Entrepreneur in Miami Defends His Love for Pets Amid Criticism

Wednesday, October 30, 2024 by Charlotte Gomez

A young Cuban entrepreneur, who owns Ena’s Secret Bake in Miami, has taken to social media to respond to criticisms regarding his affection for his pets. His beloved companions include a pair of small pigs, several Chihuahua dogs, and Pepe, a well-known goat that has gained viral fame due to his owner's dedication and care.

Yandry Roque Pando, the bakery's owner, shared a lengthy video on his Facebook profile to clarify that his pets are like family to him. He firmly denied accusations suggesting that these animals might end up as part of his menu offerings. "Understand what a pet means. My animals aren't for eating. I choose to have pigs, goats, whatever I want. I don't kill animals; I care for and rescue them," he emphasized, addressing those who have falsely accused him of using his own animals for meat in his bakery.

In the video, Roque explained that the pork used in his business comes from an external supplier, stating, “The pork we sell is bought frozen, and the managers prepare it. I have nothing to do with slaughtering a pig.”

He also highlighted the time and money he has invested in rescuing and caring for his animals, defending his decision to keep them and the love he shows them. The young businessman sent a strong message to his critics, saying, “My pets are my life, and if you don't agree, block me or get lost,” he declared.

Viral Videos and Public Response

The backlash stemmed from his recent posts, where he is seen affectionately feeding and tickling a small piglet. Some individuals suggested that this pet was destined to become a roast pork sandwich, similar to those sold at Ena’s Secret Bake, a comment that prompted his passionate response.

“Yes, we sell roast pork sandwiches at my bakery, but I don't kill pigs myself,” the Cuban entrepreneur reiterated. “Those who know me understand the kind of person I am. With the elderly, with animals, I don't mess around. For me, the most important are the elderly and little animals,” he stated.

Community Engagement and Business Initiatives

Roque has initiated several efforts to establish his bakery in Miami. Recently, he gave away cakes on a Hialeah street, exclaiming, “My people, let's stop traffic here to give away cake,” in a video shared on his Facebook profile, set to the tune of “Añoranza por la Conga.”

On another occasion, he evoked childhood memories for Cubans by offering sweets in birthday treat boxes. This gesture was part of his strategy to connect with the community and promote his bakery.
