Descemer Bueno is overjoyed as he spends precious moments in the Dominican Republic with his mother, Mercedes Martínez, and family, who traveled from Cuba to see him. It had been four long years since the Cuban singer and songwriter had embraced his mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's, a condition that has made the separation even more painful.
"Thank you, my God, and everything that exists in this world for granting me this chance. Here I am with my mother in the Dominican Republic. Four years and eight months have passed during which, due to security issues, I couldn't see my mother in my homeland, and for the same reasons, I had to bring her to this beautiful island filled with incredibly kind people. God bless them," Descemer expressed in a heartfelt Facebook post.
A Joyful Family Gathering
In a video captured by his partner, Darlenis Pérez, the composer is seen accompanying his mother in a wheelchair, surrounded by other family members. "Well, my folks, here we are with the whole family. Here is my mom. Some are missing, but we are here in Punta Cana," he is heard saying before thanking all his followers for their kind messages upon learning about this mother-son reunion.
Political Barriers and Personal Sacrifices
In an earlier video, Descemer shared the emotional moment he kissed his mother after years of separation, during which his political stance against the dictatorship prevented him from traveling to the island. The artist has previously expressed that his biggest regret in speaking out about politics was not being able to visit his ailing mother in Cuba.
