The La Farola Viaduct, a crucial route leading into the city of Baracoa, continues to suffer from severe damage following the impact of Hurricane Oscar and persistent rainfall battering the Guantánamo province. On Tuesday, Radio Guantánamo reported through Facebook that the Chief of the Eastern Army, Major General Eugenio Rabilero Aguilera, visited the troubled area.

Accompanied by the Minister of Construction, he assessed the joint efforts being undertaken by the engineering units of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and teams from the Ministry of Construction. Despite their efforts, the restoration of this vital transportation link remains elusive more than a week after the hurricane's devastation.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Juana Eglis Fernández Louit presented a series of images illustrating how ongoing rainfall is still causing landslides that disrupt traffic on the iconic La Farola Viaduct, renowned as one of Cuba's seven civil engineering marvels.

Meanwhile, a report from state-run Cuban Television provided an update on the destruction identified in the Guantánamo province due to Hurricane Oscar's recent onslaught. The governor of Guantánamo, Alisa Saárez Torreblanca, revealed that a substantial 56 kilometers of roads have been damaged, alongside more than 10,500 homes experiencing some form of harm.

She further noted that, in terms of the electrical grid, over 67% of those affected in the province have had their power restored. Regarding the educational sector, she clarified that over 440 schools in municipalities unscathed by the cyclone have resumed classes. However, the 175 schools that sustained damage are scheduled to reopen on November 4.
