In a dedicated effort to support communities devastated by Hurricane Oscar, activists from Havana and Matanzas have launched a book collection campaign to aid the regions affected in Guantánamo. Activist Yadiel Cepero announced via Facebook that donations are still being gathered to assist those impacted by the hurricane.
"This time, we're focusing on books for damaged libraries and for children, teenagers, and families who would appreciate them," Cepero mentioned. He also highlighted the establishment of several donation drop-off points in Matanzas and Havana, emphasizing that "every act of solidarity is deeply appreciated."
Cepero encouraged individuals to bring their contributions to the AfroAtenAs project's headquarters, located in the Callejón de las Tradiciones in Matanzas, by Wednesday. He assured that if this deadline cannot be met, arrangements will be made with other initiatives to ensure the aid reaches its intended destination.
Following the destructive path of Hurricane Oscar through Cuba's eastern region, numerous volunteers have mobilized to support those affected. The Huellas solidarity initiative launched a social media campaign to provide relief to the hurricane victims in eastern Cuba.
In a heartfelt message to all Cubans, regardless of ideology or beliefs, Johanna Jolá Álvarez, the project leader, urged for solidarity on Facebook. She highlighted the devastation left by the cyclone, which has stripped thousands of families of their basic material possessions.
Moreover, a Cuban individual offered his personal vehicle, a Moskvitch, to transport donations to San Antonio del Sur for those impacted by the hurricane. "I offer my car for a trip tomorrow to deliver donations to San Antonio del Sur. 51463617," wrote Wilmer Fernández in the Facebook group Revolico Guantanamero.
