Cuban Woman in Spain Reflects on Job Hunt Challenges as an Immigrant: "We've All Been There"

Anabel Figueroa (@anabel_figueroaf), a Cuban residing in Spain, has taken to TikTok to shed light on the struggles many immigrants face when seeking employment abroad. In her video, she addresses those who have encountered job rejections and discrimination simply for being immigrants. "If you're an immigrant like me, if you've been made to feel unwelcome at work, or if your resume has been dismissed, you're not alone. We've all been there," she begins her heartfelt message.

Figueroa highlights the frustration of leaving behind a successful career and recognition in one's home country, only to confront a starkly different reality upon arriving in Spain. Despite the challenges, she emphasizes the importance of not losing hope. "If you had a job and a career where you were appreciated back home, and things are different here, don't feel disheartened. This is something many of us have experienced," she reassures.

The young Cuban also touches on the deceit some immigrants face, trusting employers who promise opportunities only to be let go shortly after. Yet, her message ultimately conveys resilience and optimism. "Tomorrow is another chance to start job hunting again. For those who look down on us for being immigrants, remember, your ancestors were immigrants too, welcomed by another country," she asserts.

With a hopeful note, Figueroa encourages her fellow Cubans to persevere: "Keep your head held high because there's much more for Cubans to achieve globally."
