Cuban in Mexico Declares Himself 'Millionaire' in Viral Video

Saturday, October 26, 2024 by Robert Castillo

Michel Crónicas, a Cuban YouTuber residing in Mexico, has gained widespread attention on TikTok with a video where he describes himself as a "millionaire" due to the basic amenities he now enjoys, which were unavailable to him in Cuba. In just 24 hours, the video has garnered over 774,000 views, more than 76,000 likes, and a flood of comments reflecting on his message.

"I am a Cuban millionaire living in Mexico," Michel begins in his video, listing the conveniences he now has: 24-hour electricity, hot and purified water, yogurt, bread with butter, fresh fruits, and his beloved cup of coffee with milk. However, he emphasizes that the most precious of all is his freedom. "The most important thing I have in Mexico is my freedom, and I know that if I strive, I can achieve each of my goals," he states.

Freedom and Basic Needs: A Stark Contrast

Michel's video addresses the dire situation in Cuba, a nation where such basic comforts are nearly unimaginable. "Things in Cuba need to change; Cubans need freedom to achieve their dreams," he asserts, delivering a powerful message about the stark realities of his homeland.

The video has sparked diverse reactions. Many praised Michel's gratitude towards Mexico, the country that has welcomed him, while others expressed concern about Mexico's future. "Enjoy it while you can, because Mexico is on its way to becoming another Cuba," warned a worried viewer. Conversely, some were optimistic, stating, "Six years ago, people said we would become like Cuba or Venezuela, but we are stronger than ever."

Political Comparisons and Reactions

The post has ignited political comparisons, splitting opinions between those who believe Mexico is on a positive trajectory and those who fear it might follow Cuba's path. "Mexico is heading that way; it's only a matter of time," commented another user, while some approached the topic with humor: "We’ll fund your trip to the USA or Spain."

This type of reflection from those originally from the largest of the Antilles is not uncommon online. Recently, Cuban YouTuber Anita Mateu (@anita.mateu), who has been living in Galicia for two years, shared a similar sentiment, describing herself as "rich" for having access to basic needs that are considered luxuries in Cuba.

Michel's video has sparked a growing debate, and with thousands of comments, it is clear that his reflection has struck a sensitive chord among both Cubans and Mexicans.
