A tragic collision involving a bus and a motorcycle claimed the life of a young motorcyclist on Wednesday in Santa Cruz del Norte, located in the Mayabeque province, according to reports from social media users.
The deceased, identified as "Yunieski," was described by an online user as "a great young man from an excellent family." Details about the circumstances of the accident and its possible cause remain unclear.
A photo shared in the Facebook group Automobile Accidents in Cuba depicted the motorcycle wedged almost beneath the front wheels of the bus. Nearby, a bloodstain highlighted the severity of the injuries sustained by Yunieski, who reportedly died at the scene, according to witnesses.
The motorcyclist was carrying a 20-liter gasoline canister on his bike, as noted by an observer. Another user familiar with the area described the intersection where the accident occurred as hazardous.
Concerns Over Traffic Safety
As of the latest updates, no further information has been confirmed about this tragic accident, which has left a Cuban family in mourning. Despite public perception of increasing traffic accidents in recent months, Cuban authorities stated in early July that the first half of 2024 saw 543 fewer incidents compared to the same period the previous year.
In a broadcast of the state-run program Mesa Redonda, Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Agency of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), announced a reduction of 81 fatalities (23%) and 151 injuries (5%) between January and June of this year, compared to the same timeframe in 2023.
