The well-known Cuban comedian Luis Silva, famous for his portrayal of the character "Pánfilo" on the show Vivir del Cuento, has expressed his outrage following the recent island-wide blackout that has plagued Cuba. Speaking candidly and without mincing words, Silva, one of the nation's most beloved entertainers, called for the resignation of those responsible for this crisis. "I want to see resignations! Several people need to resign," he declared in reaction to a Facebook post by state journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso, who detailed the severe energy crisis.
Pánfilo's response has garnered over 400 reactions, resonating deeply with the public and intensifying discussions about the accountability of the authorities amidst the country's dire situation. Coincidentally, just hours ago, the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC), a coalition of opposition groups both inside and outside the island, demanded that leader Miguel Díaz-Canel step down due to the escalating energy crisis affecting the Cuban populace.
Public Frustration Reaches New Heights
The blackout has sparked escalating frustration among Cubans, and Silva's words echo a widespread sentiment of dissatisfaction. His remarks have come at a time when Vivir del Cuento could potentially face censorship issues on Cuban television. These suspicions arose after Silva shared a message on Instagram regarding the absence of new episode airings, and subsequently, one of the show's producers confirmed unsettling information.
A producer associated with the program revealed in a phone call to CubaNet that the new episodes haven't aired due to censorship: "There has been significant censorship in the production of the latest episodes, causing considerable discontent within the team."
Regime's Response Amidst Growing Discontent
Meanwhile, the regime continues its triumphant rhetoric, with Díaz-Canel at the forefront of this outdated narrative: "At 11:00 am, the National Defense Council is convened to analyze the exceptional situation our country is facing," he posted on the social platform X.
"We are closely monitoring the energy contingency and the damage caused by Oscar. The National Electric System is recovering, and Guantánamo will recover as well," added the current leader of the dictatorship.
