Yomil Hidalgo and Daniela Reyes took to social media to express their dismay over the widespread blackout that has plunged almost the entire nation of Cuba into darkness since Friday morning. The Cuban reggaeton artist shared his frustration on Instagram stories, stating, "It's looking bad, oh my Cuba."
The blackout has forced the postponement of Yomil's scheduled concert at the Casa de la Música in Varadero, originally set for this Saturday. Daniela Reyes, Yomil's partner, also shared her thoughts on the situation in the fleeting Instagram stories section.
"A country without electricity, without signal for calls, and without internet! No cultural activities, no educational activities, no work functioning, and in the dark, how sad. What is this? It's heartbreaking to go outside and see people just sitting on the sidewalks, waiting for nothing," wrote Daniela.
Numerous artists in exile in Miami have also voiced their concerns about the untenable situation affecting Cuban families. In an Instagram video, La Diosa remarked that Cubans are being slowly killed in life and that their only option is to bring an end to the current regime on the island.
Willy Chirino, Alexander Delgado, and Leoni Torres also shared messages of solidarity on social media, demanding an end to the dictatorship in Cuba. The overwhelming majority of the country has been without power for over 36 consecutive hours. The National Electric System collapsed on Friday and once again on Saturday morning, leaving all provinces, including Havana, in the dark.
