An unusual event unfolded at dawn this Saturday on the shores of Matanzas Bay, as numerous dead fish were discovered washed up along the coastal area, particularly in the section known as Viaduct. The local newspaper Girón reported on the incident, though it did not cite any expert sources. It suggested that the recent powerful surf, a result of the climatic disturbances affecting the province, might have led to the demise of several species inhabiting the rocky edges of this significant roadway along the southern part of the bay.
The images shared by the Matanzas press reveal a variety of species, including moray eels, porcupinefish (commonly referred to as guanábanas), cowfish, and even a lionfish. This unexpected sight has left local residents bewildered, as the area, despite enduring severe cyclones in the past, has never witnessed such an unusual natural occurrence.
