A driver operating a tanker from the state-run Cuba Petroleum Company (CUPET) fled the scene after a close call involving a young girl on the road. The incident took place on Friday when the driver attempted to overtake a stationary truck at a pedestrian crossing in Songo la Maya, Santiago de Cuba, nearly hitting the child as she crossed the street.

This reckless act provoked outrage among the local residents, who witnessed the event in a bustling pedestrian area, as reported by journalist Yosmany Mayeta on his social media. Eyewitnesses described the tanker speeding over the crosswalk, ignoring the potential danger.

Recognizing the imminent threat, the community demanded that the driver stop and take responsibility for his actions. However, he chose to ignore these calls and continued on his way without halting.

The local community's response was swift, with several angry residents attempting to confront the driver over his apparent negligence, as recounted by the local reporter. Despite the public's protests, the tanker drove away, leaving the scene behind.
