Jardiel Uncovers Bizarre Find in Marianao Store

Thursday, October 17, 2024 by Richard Morales

The renowned Cuban comedian Jardiel has once again captured attention with his quirky antics. This time, he shared his experience of purchasing a unique and vibrant "polochi" for 1,250 pesos from his local store. The garment, decorated with oversized kittens, even came with a matching scarf. "Check this out, where did I get this? A thrift store? No. A private business shop? No. A commission house? No. I bought this at the store, my store," Jardiel humorously exclaimed to his followers while energetically roaming around Marianao.

"Look at how it fits me... with a scarf and everything. The criminal from Ariguanabo's textile mill. If I surprise someone wearing this at night, they'll be traumatized," the comedian joked amid laughter. With his signature irony, Jardiel pointed out that while the store lacked essential goods, like monthly rations that were still pending from last month, it did have clothing in stock. "Thread for sewing, yes; food to eat, no," he jested.

"Notice how 'cooking' refers to sewing, but there's no food being prepared, just thread being made," he quipped, dubbing himself a "mosaic" due to his striking outfit. Many internet users have laughed heartily at Jardiel’s humor, as he consistently finds ways to highlight the absurdity of everyday life in Cuba.

Amidst the ongoing economic crisis, struggling Cuban stores have begun offering additional items, often through deals with state or private enterprises, due to the near-absence of basic supplies. Commenters on Jardiel's video speculated that the peculiar "polochi" resembles a pediatric nurse’s uniform. In countries like Spain, pediatric healthcare workers often wear bright and colorful uniforms with child-friendly designs to ease children's anxiety over the typical white coat.

The term "polochi," which might sound unusual to some, is a colloquial variation of the word "polo" in Cuba. It describes a casual or sporty shirt, typically with a collar and buttons, similar to classic polo shirts.
