A woman claiming to be the aunt of Damian Valdez-Galloso, the man sought by police as a person of interest in the death of El Taiger, recently spoke out against the criminalization of Damian’s family on social media. She urged people not to expose his relatives online. Meanwhile, she voiced opinions about El Taiger that could be painful or inappropriate for the artist's fans, who are collectively mourning his loss.
In a lengthy YouTube livestream, Evelyn, as she identifies herself, criticized certain influencers for what she views as a media lynching not only of her nephew but also of the entire family. She accused them of sharing family photos online, which she sees as harmful.
Family Under Fire
Evelyn referenced Ledián Campo Frómeta, Damian's cousin who has been missing since 2017, noting that some influencers have falsely implicated him as a potential accomplice in the incident. She finds these claims absurd.
She described Damian's father as an honest and hardworking man without a criminal record who has devoted his life in the U.S. to taking care of his autistic daughter, Damian's sister, who is now 20. The family has kept her out of school out of fear for her safety. Damian's mother, a nurse, is also afraid to leave the house.
“Put yourself on the other side of the story. He has a family,” Evelyn stressed. While it's confirmed that Damian paid for the motel where El Taiger stayed the night before his murder, she asserts, “Nobody knows what happened.”
Questions Unanswered
The family filed a missing person report for Damian the day after police raided their Hialeah home. They fear he might be dead, adding to the media frenzy, unaware of the truth.
“Perhaps Damian is a victim,” she speculated, emphasizing that whether he's guilty or not, his family shouldn't be exposed.
Evelyn argues that her nephew, if alive, may know what happened to El Taiger, perhaps witnessing the event or being caught up in it. However, she doubts he fired the shot that killed the reggaeton star. They were friends, and she doesn't believe he could do something like that alone.
Support and Criticism
One of her most controversial statements was that El Taiger "brought it on himself." She expressed her love for his music but maintained her harsh stance without expanding on it. She also called him a "delinquent," surprised by the support he received, suggesting other more pressing issues related to Cuba deserve attention.
“This Miami has rallied around a delinquent...more than around the cause of Cuba,” she criticized, despite acknowledging El Taiger was beloved by many Cubans.
Media and Public Perception
She reserved special criticism for Alexander Otaola, calling him both a bad person and an intelligent one, suggesting he diverted attention from a more scandalous issue involving his former treasurer by discussing El Taiger.
“Stop focusing on Otaola. He’s blinding us, and we’re falling for it,” she warned.
Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales ruled out suicide in El Taiger's case, labeling it a criminal act during a press conference. Morales sought public help to find Damian, 49, also known as "El Narra," declared a person of interest in the investigation.
El Taiger passed away on October 10, after a week in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, following a gunshot wound to the head found in a car. It was revealed that he shared a friendship with El Narra, who was one of the last people to see him before the tragic incident.
Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Damian’s whereabouts. He is described as 5'09", weighing approximately 186 pounds, with brown eyes and hair, and tattoos on both arms and chest. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
