A Miami-based Cuban truck driver has been convicted of murder after killing his co-driver and abandoning the body near an interstate highway in Indiana. Though the crime occurred in February 2022, it was only recently that a jury in White County, Indiana, found 44-year-old Cuban national Miguel Ibarguren guilty of murdering 63-year-old Aristides García, a resident of Los Angeles, California.
García's body was discovered on March 8, 2022, in a ditch along Interstate 65, according to the Indiana State Police. Both men were employed as co-drivers for a national trucking company based in Iowa. The body was located near a highway mile marker after the employer reported García missing on February 3, when the semi-truck was found without him.
Following an autopsy, authorities declared the death a homicide on March 10. Subsequently, on March 13, 2022, a White County judge issued an arrest warrant for Ibarguren. Through various investigative techniques and the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies, detectives were able to track Ibarguren down in Arlington, Texas, on March 15, 2022. He was later extradited to Indiana to face trial.
The nationality of the victim and the motive behind the crime have not been disclosed. "The Indiana State Police wish to express their gratitude to all law enforcement bodies and personnel involved in this investigation, whose hard work and collaboration were crucial in bringing the case to a successful conclusion," stated a release from White County.
Authorities have announced that the sentencing is scheduled for next month, at which time further details will be provided.
