With her characteristic candor, Cuban influencer Flor de Cuba recently addressed a pressing question from one of her Instagram followers about the desperation many young Cubans feel to emigrate. In a heartfelt Instagram Q&A session, she shared her thoughts on how Cuba's political system has instilled a damaging belief that the government is responsible for fulfilling all basic needs.
"This might stir controversy, but I believe the greatest harm our political system has done is making people think that the government should be accountable for what you eat, where you live, and the money you earn," Flor de Cuba stated. She emphasized that Cubans need to take charge of their own success and well-being.
"I think it's beneficial for them to leave because it helps them realize that the only person responsible for fixing your home, providing the food you love, and earning the money you need is you," she added. Flor de Cuba highlighted how relying on the state to meet citizens' needs is detrimental to personal and societal growth.
Public Perception and Personal Growth
Another question posed to the young influencer was whether she felt offended when compared to the animated character Fiona from the movie Shrek. "As a public figure, I understand that comparisons and jokes are normal. Striving for physical perfection is not only exhausting but also destructive. I'm aware of my flaws and strengths and work hard on them," she declared, making it clear that these comparisons don't bother her.
Currently residing in Cuba, Flor de Cuba has recently visited Miami. Her trips to the United States are expected to become more frequent in the coming years, as she has been granted a five-year tourist visa, allowing her to travel freely in and out of the country.
