In a recent operation, the Guatemalan Civil National Police (PNC) reported the apprehension of 59 migrants, among them several Cubans. This event took place on Sunday at kilometer 69 on the Pacific route. The group, traveling on a Pullman-type bus, included individuals from Venezuela, Colombia, Nepal, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Ecuador. According to the PNC's announcement on Facebook, these migrants had entered the country without proper documentation, and the group also contained four minors.
During the operation, law enforcement officials arrested the bus's driver, Wilber "N", aged 42, and his assistant, Jonathan "N", aged 27. Both individuals have been presented to a court for further legal action. Meanwhile, the detained migrants received necessary attention and were subsequently transported by bus to the Guatemalan Institute of Migration to process their cases, as detailed in the police report.
Recent Surge in Migrant Detentions
Earlier this week, the PNC detained 27 Cuban nationals in a similar operation, which uncovered a bus carrying 70 undocumented individuals through the Central American nation. This incident occurred at kilometer 69.6 in Escuintla, near the nation's capital. The authorities intercepted a bus, license plate C-120BVZ, belonging to a Pacific transport line.
Alongside the 27 Cubans, the vehicle carried a diverse group of migrants: one from Uzbekistan, one from Chile, a Brazilian, three Russians, two Chinese, and nine Venezuelans. The bus also transported four Ecuadorians, four Vietnamese, four Indians, eight Haitians, and six Hondurans, which included 11 children among the 70 passengers.
