Enrique Eulalio Díaz Gómez, a distinguished coach in the field of track and field, specifically in the throwing events, passed away this past Saturday in Havana at the age of 70 due to a pulmonary embolism. This sad news was shared on the Facebook profile Leo Burun Cuba, which mentioned that "his remains will be cremated, and a tribute will be held at his home when his ashes are brought," as Díaz Gómez hailed from the province of Villa Clara.
Among his most notable achievements on the global stage was the silver medal he secured at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina, in 1995. He also claimed the title at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Ponce in 1993. Additionally, his career was highlighted by a bronze medal at the Ibero-American Championships in Colombia in 1996.
As a coach, Díaz Gómez represented Cuban athletics in countries such as Mexico and Brazil, participating in missions sent by the Cuban government to these nations. He spent several years working at the Manuel Fajardo University of Sciences, Physical Culture, and Sports.
