The Miami Police Department has described the investigation into the murder of Cuban reggaeton artist José Manuel Carvajal Zaldívar, popularly known as El Taiger, as a "complex puzzle." Following widespread calls for justice after the artist was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the head, authorities have labeled the case as "highly active," emphasizing the need for community cooperation to bring it to a conclusion.
El Taiger was discovered on October 4 with a gunshot wound to his forehead, inside the rear seat of a Mercedes Benz SUV abandoned near the emergency room of Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital. A tip-off from an anonymous caller led police to the scene, and they quickly ruled out suicide as a possibility.
Freddie Cruz, a captain and spokesperson for the Miami Police, indicated that they have identified the owner of the vehicle in which the artist was found, though this information remains confidential for now, according to Martí Noticias. Additionally, they are searching for Damián Valdez-Galloso, known as "El Narra," who might possess critical information. Cruz clarified that Valdez-Galloso "is not a suspect" in the crime at this stage.
Search for Key Witness Intensifies
"We want to speak with him because he might have insights into this case, as capturing those responsible is our priority," Cruz emphasized. "It's been several days since we began our efforts to locate Valdez-Galloso," he added. The police have offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his whereabouts.
The spokesperson urged the public to report any information, no matter how small, that could assist with the investigation. "If anyone observed a suspicious vehicle or individual, please report it immediately," he urged.
Grim Scene Unfolds Near Major Hospital
The area where El Taiger was found presented a chilling scene: the vehicle was parked just a few blocks from Jackson Memorial, a major Miami hospital, and the artist was discovered in the third row of the car. Authorities suspect he was attacked elsewhere and then transported to this location. Additionally, gasoline cans were found atop the vehicle.
Sources close to the musician noted that his hospital room was under police guard. Cruz explained that officers' presence at the hospital is standard procedure: "There are always officers inside and outside the hospital patrolling."
Community Assistance Needed in Ongoing Investigation
Recently, Miami authorities reiterated their call for public assistance: "We need your help. Damián Valdez-Galloso is wanted for questioning in the murder of Cuban artist José Manuel Carvajal, known as 'El Taiger.' The murder occurred near N.W. 9th Ave and 17th St. on October 3, 2024. If you have seen Damián or have any information, please come forward. You can remain completely anonymous, with a reward of up to $5,000 for tips that help solve this case. Legal Ramifications of the Crime
Mayron Gallardo, a lawyer, explained to journalist Mario J. Pentón that the individual responsible for the crime will face a homicide case with first-degree felony charges, which could merit the death penalty, as the crime appears premeditated. The police confirmed that El Taiger's death was not a suicide attempt, but a criminal act.
Gallardo further stated, "The person accountable for such a crime is not entitled to bail and will remain in detention post-arrest." He highlighted that the nature of the gunshot wound indicated premeditation. Additionally, the presence of gasoline cans in the vehicle raised suspicions.
"According to criminal law, such a violent crime can be punishable by the death penalty," Gallardo clarified. He also mentioned that an arrest warrant for El Narra has been circulated to all 49 states following its issuance.
