The well-known Cuban actor Alejandro Cuervo has expressed profound sorrow over the untimely passing of José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar, affectionately known as El Taiger. Cuervo, who once had the opportunity to interview the famed reggaeton artist, shared his heartfelt reaction in a video on his Instagram account.
In the video, Cuervo can be seen tearfully listening to a song composed by Dayron Curbelo (known as @dstarlc on Instagram), which features El Taiger's voice recreated through artificial intelligence. "Today, we bid farewell to one of the most influential figures in our country's urban music scene. Although I only met him once, that brief encounter was enough to feel his immense light and talent," Cuervo remarked.
He continued, "His legacy, his music will forever remain in the memory of all who admired him—nearly two decades of dancing to his numerous chart-toppers. Thank you, Taiger, who was a prince and now eternal. Rest in peace."
The young actor also shared the interview he conducted with the singer years ago in Cuba, during which El Taiger discussed his artistic projects. Tragically, El Taiger, aged 36, was pronounced dead on Thursday at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital after spending a week in critical condition due to a gunshot wound to the head.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the Cuban music community, with numerous artists and personalities expressing their condolences through heartfelt messages. International figures such as J Balvin, Farruko, and Tekashi 6ix9ine have also acknowledged the tragic event, highlighting its impact beyond Cuba.
