A 53-year-old woman of Cuban descent, identified as Lourdes García-Mesquida, was taken into custody in Miami on charges of aggravated stalking. She allegedly placed a GPS device on the vehicle of her friend's husband's lover. According to reports from NBC Miami, jail records in Miami-Dade reveal that the incident took place in mid-September.
Surveillance footage caught García-Mesquida behaving suspiciously near the victim's car on September 14. The following day, the victim discovered a Spytec GPS tracker attached to her vehicle.
Confrontation and Confession
Four days later, García-Mesquida was once again seen approaching the car and placing an unknown object beneath it. A passerby, witnessing the event, confronted her. In her defense, García-Mesquida claimed she was confused and that a friend misled her into searching for a car. After the confrontation, she removed the tracker from the vehicle.
Video Evidence and Arrest
The incidents were captured by security cameras, and the footage was shown to the victim, who then presented it to her boyfriend, the married man involved. He identified the woman as Lourdes García-Mesquida, a friend of his wife. This identification was pivotal in the investigation, leading to García-Mesquida's arrest.
Following her arrest, García-Mesquida was placed in custody but was later released on probation after posting a $2,500 bond. Florida's current laws clearly state that placing a tracking device on someone else's property without consent is a third-degree felony.
The victim has since confirmed that she is no longer in a relationship with the man tied to the incident.
