The Cuban artist Richard Somonte, who has been residing in Madrid, Spain for the past five years, has created a piece of art dedicated to the well-known Cuban reggaeton artist José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar, more popularly known as El Taiger. This act of homage is a testament to Somonte's admiration and support for the musician.

On Instagram, Somonte shared that although he hasn't met El Taiger in person, they have mutual friends and he has always regarded him as "a good guy." The artist, celebrated for his portraits of iconic figures, revealed that El Taiger's song "El Secreto" played a crucial role during a significant period in his life. This influence motivated Somonte to pay tribute to the reggaeton artist, acknowledging the impact El Taiger has had not only in the urban music scene but also in the lives of his fans.

Artistic Style and Influences

Somonte's artwork is known for its blend of pop culture references and historical elements. He has painted portraits of notable figures such as the matador Manolete and reggaeton artist Chocolate MC, incorporating a baroque and extravagant touch, as noted by the digital platform Yucabyte. Additionally, Somonte is recognized for his affinity towards the libertarian ideas of Argentine president Javier Milei, for whom he created a portrait presented at a ceremony in the Real Casino of Madrid.

A Personal Connection

However, his recent tribute to El Taiger signifies a more personal connection, highlighting his respect for individuals who influence his artistic and emotional journey. This new portrait exemplifies Somonte's versatility and his ability to engage with diverse cultural realms, from urban music to politics and art history.

Meanwhile, El Taiger remains hospitalized at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, after being shot in the head on Thursday. The incident has put a spotlight on the artist, further intertwining his life with Somonte's creative expression.
