By early afternoon on Thursday, real-time data from the independent outlet elTOQUE confirmed a rise in the average selling price of the dollar, which now stands at 322 pesos—an increase of two pesos from the previous day. Meanwhile, the values for the other two benchmark currencies showed fluctuations compared to their rates at 7:00 a.m. local time. The euro has decreased once again to 335, while the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) has regained the two pesos it had lost, returning to 270 CUP.
For the first time in over two months, both the dollar and the euro saw simultaneous price increases in Cuba's informal market as of Thursday morning, a situation not seen since July 29. This uptick follows a report by elTOQUE published earlier this week, which indicated that some stores on the island are now allowing the purchase of goods with cash in foreign currencies. The report revealed that employees from the Caribe Retail Chain and Cimex Corporation have stated that certain commercial outlets are already accepting cash payments in dollars and euros, while others are preparing to begin accepting foreign currency in cash.
