A Cuban resident of Texas has decided to return to the Lone Star State after spending a month in Miami with his family, contemplating a potential move to the Sunshine City. Known on TikTok as @jorge_drake1992, or by his followers as El Huevito Mantilla, he shared his insights on the platform.
In his video, he detailed his month-long stay with his family in Miami. “We thought about renting a place and living in Miami, but with how expensive everything is…” he remarked, highlighting the sky-high rental prices. "We looked at a couple of places, and they wanted around $6,000 as a deposit. Even an efficiency was going for $1,500," he recounted. He also mentioned his wife's frustration with the city's heavy traffic. "She told me: let's go back to Texas; we're better off there," he added.
Contrasting Miami's costs, he pointed out that in Texas, they could find a four-bedroom house for $2,300. Additionally, auto insurance is cheaper, and traffic is less of a hassle. “For $1,300, you can rent a two-bedroom apartment. Insurance and food are affordable. Everything is cheaper,” he noted.
"We'd rather stay in Texas because I realized you can't make it in Miami. Anyone who wants to move there is in for a rough ride," he commented.
The post sparked a conversation among fellow Cubans, with some agreeing with his perspective and others still favoring Miami living. "I'm leaving Miami this month after 10 years and moving to Texas," shared one user. Another added, "I wouldn't leave Miami for anything, blessings." Other comments included, "The best decision: Texas," "I arrived in Houston two days ago. I have a one-bedroom apartment for $850, and in Miami, I was paying $1,500 for an efficiency. I just got a quote for insurance on my two cars; the difference is huge," and "That's exactly right, yet so many people are moving to Miami."
