A mother took to social media to express her heartfelt thanks to a young man who, in an act of selflessness and integrity, returned a tablet her grandson had lost at a bus stop on Colón Road in Pinar del Río. Yamile Cruz shared her gratitude in the Facebook group “TODO - PINAR” for a young man named Yosniel, describing him as "an outstanding human being and father" for finding and returning the tablet her son had misplaced on Sunday at the Colón Road location.
“A million thanks. Eternally indebted,” Cruz wrote, expressing her deep appreciation for the young man's honesty, a trait that stands out in the Cuban context, where financial desperation often leads people to exploit any opportunity for gain.
Last Sunday, Pedro Pablo Cruz, the boy's grandfather, reached out for help in the same Facebook group, explaining that his grandson had lost the tablet on Colón Road. Alongside sharing his contact information for anyone who might find it, he pleaded with the community for assistance in retrieving the device.
Rare Acts of Kindness Amid Economic Hardship
Amidst the worsening economic crisis, gestures of kindness like this are uncommon yet greatly valued. In July, a young man in Santiago de Cuba discovered a wallet containing documents and cards on the street and promptly sought to return it to its owner, asking for nothing in return.
The young man responsible for this commendable act reached out to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, who shared a photo on Facebook of an official document with the name of the wallet’s owner, highlighting the young man's integrity.
