The Latinoamericano Stadium in Havana recently hosted a showcase event where Cuban baseball players demonstrated their skills to international scouts from leagues in Japan, Italy, and Venezuela.
The scouts, including Kenta Hagiwara and Yuichi Matsumoto from Japan's SoftBank Hawks, Fabio Beti from Bologna, and Elías Saba from Venezuela's Tiburones de la Guaira, were invited by the Cuban Baseball Federation to assess local talent for potential future professional signings.
Showcase Highlights
On Saturday, players from Havana and members of the national preselection squad, who are gearing up for the Premier 12 tournament scheduled for next November in Mexico, Chinese Taipei, and Japan, had the opportunity to stand out.
According to Prensa Latina, the athletes participated in various tests including 60-yard dashes, home-to-first base sprints, swing power demonstrations, and throws from the infield and outfield. Scrimmage games were also held, and on Sunday, talents from other provinces will have the chance to perform before the foreign scouts.
Path to Professional Baseball
Undoubtedly, as in previous years, this initiative provides a valuable chance for young Cuban baseball players to pave their way into international professional baseball.
