American meteorologists issued a warning on Saturday about a tropical moisture area moving from the Caribbean Sea, which has the potential to form into a depression south of Cuba in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Though the exact path of this system remains uncertain, NBC6 reported that it is being closely monitored. The tropical wave is currently situated in the central Caribbean, south of Cuba, and might evolve into a low-pressure area as it moves westward.
The National Hurricane Center indicated a 40% chance that this system could develop into a tropical depression by the middle of next week as it heads towards the Gulf of Mexico.
Potential Impact on Florida
Environmental conditions appear to be favorable for the further development of this system, which could result in more unstable weather in southern Florida, regardless of whether it becomes a tropical storm.
This potential weather system emerges as the U.S. Gulf Coast is still dealing with the devastating aftermath of Helene, which led to flooding and claimed over 500 lives in the southeastern part of the country.
