The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) has reported the emergence of Tropical Storm Joyce and Hurricane Isaac in the Atlantic Ocean. Joyce, the tenth named storm of this season, is currently situated over the open waters of the tropical Atlantic, approximately 1,325 miles (2,130 km) east of the northern Leeward Islands, north of Venezuela.
Joyce is traveling northwest at about 13 mph (20 km/h) with maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 km/h) and stronger gusts. According to the NHC, the storm is predicted to move westward across the Atlantic, gaining some strength by Saturday. It is then expected to turn north and gradually weaken at the beginning of next week.
In contrast, Hurricane Isaac is located around 1,080 miles (1,740 km) west of the Azores, moving east-northeast at roughly 18 mph (30 km/h). The hurricane is anticipated to pick up speed in the coming days.
Isaac has maximum sustained winds of about 75 mph (120 km/h), with stronger gusts. The hurricane is forecasted to intensify on Saturday before gradually weakening towards the end of Sunday.
