Cuban Woman in U.S. Sends Strong Message to Complainers: "I'm Ashamed"

Friday, September 27, 2024 by Zoe Salinas

The young Cuban, Senia González Vidal, known on TikTok as @seniamarc, has struck a chord with her followers by sharing a video where she voices her dissatisfaction with some Cubans who complain about the challenges they face after emigrating to the United States. In her message, Senia was direct, urging people to leave behind the "image of misery" that she believes some project on social media.

"Enough already, God, I don't know if I've become insensitive, but this doesn't make me feel sorry, it makes me disgusted," Senia declared in her video, visibly frustrated. For her, men who lament on social media about how "they were better off in Cuba" are sending the wrong message about what it means to emigrate. She compared this attitude to the sacrifice of her mother, who, at 65 years old, continues to work in the U.S., having achieved more in one year than in 30 years as a professional in Cuba.

Reactions to Senia's Bold Statement

Her message did not go unnoticed and quickly sparked mixed reactions. Many followers praised her bravery for addressing such a sensitive issue that affects the emigrant community. “Absolutely right, we must be grateful to this great country,” one user commented, while another added, “Well said, I liked your video.”

However, not everyone agreed with her stance. One follower responded, “I respect your opinion, but I don't share it... I love and am proud of my roots, I know Cuba will rise.” Others argued that each migration experience is unique, and not everyone has the same capacity for adaptation or success, opening a debate on the expectations of life abroad.

Humor Amidst the Debate

Among the comments, some followers even joked about the situation, suggesting a "foundation to pay for return tickets" for those who can't adapt. Meanwhile, others reaffirmed that success in the United States can only be achieved through effort and sacrifice.

Reflecting on Migration and Social Media

Senia's video not only invites reflection on effort and gratitude but also brings to the forefront the debate on how migration is portrayed on social media. For many, these discussions highlight the complex and emotionally charged nature of adapting to a new country.
