After a 57-year hiatus, Cuba is once again participating in the Miss Universe pageant, with Marianela Ancheta representing the nation. Marianela, a Cuban model, made the journey from the island by crossing the Mexican border with her mother to reach the United States, where they had no family support. Born in Villa Clara, the 31-year-old represented the Central Region in the Miss Universe Cuba contest. From the moment she was selected, she quickly became a favorite to win the crown.
In the competition, Marianela outshone 23 other contestants, ultimately triumphing over first runner-up Alina Robert. Beyond her modeling career and being the face of various brands, Marianela is also an entrepreneur and businesswoman with her own skincare line.
On the personal front, Marianela was previously in a relationship with Cuban singer Dale Pututi. Recently, she has been linked to Colombian soccer player James Rodríguez, though neither has confirmed nor denied the rumors.
Marianela's Life in Miami
Currently residing in Miami, Marianela is part of a social circle that includes well-known Cuban celebrities, such as Kuki Delgado, the daughter of singer Alexander Delgado. Marianela will represent Cuba at Miss Universe 2024, set to take place on November 16 in Mexico City. During the event, the reigning queen, Sheynnis Palacios, will pass on the crown to her successor.
Significant Changes in Miss Universe Rules
This 73rd edition of Miss Universe is particularly noteworthy for allowing women over the age of 28, as well as mothers and women with children, to participate. This new rule has enabled Marianela, at 31 years old, to compete in the pageant.
