The renowned music producer Asdrúbal Reyna, highly regarded in Santiago de Cuba for his work with various street artists under the label “Guetto Music,” was detained this Thursday and taken to the police unit known as La Motorizada. His arrest is linked to his involvement in producing the controversial track “Súbelo Mayeta.”

Despite the detention, independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta reported on Facebook that the reasons behind Reyna's arrest and his current whereabouts remain unknown. Reyna, 33, produced the contentious song “Súbelo Mayeta,” which was created by Yunier González, also known as Lico Wayne, and Geordanis Fernández Traba, alias Tino Mán.

Artists Face Threats Over Controversial Song

The day before Reyna's arrest, both artists were summoned and detained. They were threatened with severe repercussions if they did not remove the song from social media and halt the production of its music video. Yielding to the pressure, the musicians deleted the track from their online platforms, according to Mayeta.

Song Dedicated to Activist

“Súbelo Mayeta” was a tribute to journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada for his efforts in exposing the regime's abuses against the people of Santiago de Cuba. However, following the threats, Lico Wayne and Tino Mán decided to sever ties with him, Mayeta noted.

A Call to Action

Mayeta emphasized that the phrase "Súbelo Mayeta" should become a rallying cry to highlight the injustices in Santiago de Cuba. "Just by using this phrase, we can signal that we will not be silenced in the face of any incident that warrants exposure," he asserted.
