A young man, Jesús Lorenzo Ferro Vigoa, who was robbed of his motorcycle and subsequently run over in San Cristóbal, Artemisa, last Sunday, is now out of danger. According to his uncle, Julio César Blanco González, who posted the update on Facebook, Ferro is currently staying at his brother's house in Havana, awaiting a medical procedure as per the doctors' recommendations.
The incident occurred at the bridge on the highway in the mentioned municipality, and within 24 hours, the police managed to recover the stolen motorcycle. Blanco, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed his gratitude for the support received from numerous individuals, including strangers, and voiced hope that the perpetrator would soon be apprehended and brought to justice.
Ferro, 25, endured a violent assault during which the attacker not only stole his motorcycle but also ran him over with it. The events unfolded last Sunday around 11 a.m. in San Cristóbal, Artemisa. The alleged attacker and thief, identified as Mikelish Salgado from Candelaria in the same province, remains at large, according to Julio César Blanco González's social media updates.
Family's Plea for Justice
Blanco detailed the incident in several Facebook posts, repeatedly warning that Salgado is still on the run somewhere in the area after fleeing on Ferro's motorcycle. "This is the story of a young man who, to feed his children, takes rental trips on his motorcycle, always with a smile that this murderous thief extinguished. At 11 a.m., he was brutally beaten to steal his motorcycle and then run over," Blanco lamented on Sunday.
"The young man now prays with severe injuries and has been transferred to Havana. The murderer is named Mikeli Salgado. This happened in San Cristóbal, Artemisa; if you see him, call the police. He is fleeing," Blanco urged. In other posts shared in social media groups, he elaborated that his nephew "was making a living (with his motorcycle) to feed his little children, one just months old and another three years old," and that his attacker "beat him and ran over him" with the vehicle.
Rising Incidents of Motorcycle Theft in Cuba
In Cuba, violent incidents involving the theft of electric motorcycles are becoming increasingly common due to their high demand and significant value in the black market amid the transportation scarcity. Last August, five individuals—four men and one woman—were arrested in the Arroyo Naranjo municipality in Havana for violently stealing an electric motorcycle from a 72-year-old woman "who makes a little money by giving rides," as reported by the state-run Facebook profile El Cubano Fiel.
The source detailed that the elderly woman, apparently very active despite her age, was with her motorcycle at the La Palma taxi stand on Thursday morning when a young woman hired her for a trip to the Reparto Eléctrico in the same municipality.
Earlier this month, Cuban Rachel Zamora Ríos reported the theft of her motorcycle, which occurred while she was dropping her daughter off at school. The robbery took place in front of the Ignacio Agramonte School in San José de las Lajas, the capital of Mayabeque province. Witnesses indicated that the culprit was an older, thin man.
