The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) in Pinar del Río announced on Wednesday that the impact on telephone services has been minimal despite the proximity of Hurricane Helene.
According to a post on the Facebook page of the state-run Tele Pinar channel, the company reported that power outages have temporarily limited some functions but have not caused significant damage to the telecommunications infrastructure.
Alexis Lemus Rosa, head of ETECSA's commercial and marketing department in the province, emphasized that despite the strong winds and rains associated with the hurricane, communications via the data network, mobile phones, and landlines have remained operational.
Preventive Measures Prove Effective
This stability has been achieved through preventive measures designed to ensure that the population continues to have access to telecommunications services, the post added.
ETECSA technicians and specialists remain on high alert to respond quickly to any issues that may compromise cable lines or services due to the intense winds.
Ongoing Monitoring and Immediate Action
The company assured that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and take immediate actions to minimize any impact on communications during this weather emergency.
Hurricane Helene is also bringing heavy rains to the westernmost part of Cuba, which is situated to the right of the weather system and is the most affected by the rain bands.
