Hurricane Helene, rapidly intensifying, is expected to make landfall on Florida's west coast within hours, particularly targeting the Panhandle region. Coastal counties have received warnings from authorities, urging residents to prepare for the storm's arrival, which is predicted to bring dangerous storm surges and fierce winds. Heavy rainfall, with accumulations up to 12 inches, could lead to flash and urban flooding. The state capital, Tallahassee, lies directly in the hurricane's projected path.

In response to this looming threat, various schools and universities across the state have opted for temporary closures to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and families. Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency in 61 counties to streamline the response efforts for the anticipated impact of the hurricane.
