Lenier Mesa Criticizes Influencers Urging Cubans to Protest Without Food

Tuesday, September 24, 2024 by Claire Jimenez

Lenier Mesa has once again expressed his opinions about the Cuban exile community and influencers in Miami who encourage people to protest against the Cuban dictatorship. In a recent interview alongside Tekashi 6ix9ine on the YouTube show "Farándula 305," the Cuban singer and songwriter addressed the criticisms he has faced regarding his stance on the island and his trip to Cuba with Tekashi.

"When I arrived here 16 years ago, none of the influencers currently working on these platforms existed. The exile community consisted of respected individuals like Willy Chirino, artists I admire. It was made up of older, respectful people, not the influencers we see today. The exile community has lost its respect, turning into a business that disrespects anyone," Lenier stated.

He continued, "I don't side with Cuba or here; I stand for the truth. I'm a human being, and Cuba is going through tough times. However, the influencers here are making mistakes by telling people in Cuba to take to the streets when their families are being imprisoned. I understand that change is needed in Cuba, but you can't tell people to protest when they have nothing to eat," he emphasized.

Lenier reminded these influencers, "You're sitting comfortably behind a microphone, but those people are getting beaten and facing hardships." This was his defense against the influencers who have criticized him, as well as other artists in similar situations.

Lenier Mesa has frequently faced criticism from the Cuban exile community in Miami and numerous artists who accuse him of not taking a strong stance against the Cuban regime.
