A young Cuban woman residing in the United States, (@nathyy.zaldivar.t on Tiktok), has sparked a debate online after revealing in a video that she dislikes American food and prefers the meals her mother sends from Cuba.
In the clip, Nathyy Zaldivar Toro explained that the beans in the U.S. don't taste the same as those in her homeland. "I need my mom to send me food from my country because I don't like the food here, I just don't like it," she stated in the post. She mentioned that every month her mom sends her beans, peas, and other Cuban products because "the food here just has no flavor at all."
The influencer also noted that her preference extends beyond food; she prefers medicines from Cuba as well. Despite sending American products to her family on the island, she said, “The medicines that relieve my pain are from over there. How ironic life is! I send stuff over there because they like it, but I don't like the stuff here, so they send me things from Cuba. It's crazy!”
The post has garnered numerous comments, with many users expressing sympathy and sharing their own views: "I totally agree with you, the food doesn’t taste the same"; "Even the meats don’t taste the same"; "I feel the same way, but I have to eat it. The flavor isn’t there. I’d give anything for avocado with flour and soy picadillo"; "I love your content"; "I visited Cuba for the first time, and the buns over there have more flavor than the ones here"; "The meats, especially pork and chicken, are fed more naturally in Cuba," some commented.
Some took a humorous approach to the topic, like one user who said, “Well, you must be missing a few screws. I understand the medicine, they don’t prescribe the same stuff here, but the food? Come on!”
Others suggested that she might eventually adapt to American food, implying that her preferences might change over time as she spends more years in the U.S.
