Yesenia Fernández Arango, a Cuban mother, has been missing for an entire month, according to family sources and independent platforms. Fernández, 38, who lives in Pogolotti, Marianao municipality in Havana, has not been seen since August 22nd. This information was reported on Sunday by the Gender Observatory of the Alas Tensas magazine (OGAT), which issued a warning about her disappearance.
The alert, posted on the social media platform X, clarified that Fernández does not suffer from any illnesses and that her family has already reported her disappearance to the police. The post also urged anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the number +53 53178584.
On Saturday, a message from one of Fernández’s relatives was shared in the group “Desaparecidos dentro de Cuba. Somos tu voz,” pleading for urgent assistance in locating her.
Family Appeals for Public Help
“This young woman is my sister, her name is Yesenia Fernández Arango, and she is missing. Please, if anyone sees her, get in touch. She has a child who cries every day. Contact her family; we are desperate (53178584). She is from Pogolotti and is 38 years old,” wrote Mislenis Artiaga.
A notice posted by Leonardo Vargas Coto on Facebook last Tuesday highlighted that Fernández is the mother of a three-year-old child and requested anyone who sees her to call +53 53863057.
Unverified Reports and Ongoing Speculations
In the comments of this last post, some individuals, claiming to be close to her, asserted that she had left the country and is currently in Miami. However, this information has not been confirmed by other sources.
Reports of missing persons in Cuba have surged significantly in the past year, with daily social media pleas from family and friends seeking information to find their loved ones. This increase is attributed to the lack of a state-run channel to give visibility to these cases.
Other Notable Cases
One of the most notable cases is that of Karildi Marín, who has been missing since December 14, 2023, in Havana. Her family still has not received “any response from the authorities regarding what might have happened to her,” stated her brother, Yoandri Marín, on September 14th, which was both Karildi’s 25th birthday and the nine-month anniversary of her disappearance.
