Former President Donald Trump, currently the Republican candidate for the upcoming November presidential election, has ruled out running again in 2028 if he does not succeed this time around. "No, I don’t see it happening. I think this will be it. I can't imagine it at all," the 78-year-old former president told journalist Sharyl Attkisson on the program Full Measure, adding that "hopefully, we will be successful."
Uncertain Outcome in the 2024 Presidential Race
The race to determine the successor of current President Joe Biden remains too close to call. At present, Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris are neck and neck in key battleground states, which could be decisive in the November 5 election.
Possible Administration Appointments
According to CNN, Trump was also asked during the interview about potential members of his administration if he were to be elected, specifically regarding positions for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, and Elon Musk. The former president commented that “Bobby would do very well in health and environment,” but clarified that he hasn’t made any deals yet because “it’s not appropriate to do so.”
Age and Future Candidacies
Trump, who would be 82 years old in 2028, either as a potential candidate or as a former president, noted that it's too early to discuss future plans, but acknowledged that "the time is coming, isn't it?" Age and other concerns were factors in Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race in July after a poor performance in a televised debate with Trump.
Rejection of Another Debate
On Saturday, Trump declined to participate in another presidential debate with Harris, organized by CNN. He argued that the proposed date of October 23 was too late. “The problem with another debate is that it’s too late, voting has already started,” Trump told supporters during a campaign rally in Wilmington, North Carolina.
