On social media, we often see videos of Cubans learning English, but what happens when the roles are reversed and they try to teach their language to others? A young Cuban woman is determined to give Spanish lessons to her American boyfriend, and it seems to be quite a challenge.
"I'm Cuban and he's American, second attempt to get him to speak Spanish," the girl says in a video shared on her TikTok account, @family.pickett. While she can keep up with him in English, her boyfriend struggles significantly with Spanish, especially when the words contain an 'r'.
When the young woman asks him to translate 'good afternoon,' he first mistakenly says 'ocho.' After some laughter, she corrects him, explaining that it's 'buenas tardes,' and that's where the real challenge begins. Pronouncing the diphthong formed by 'ue' proves tricky for him, but it's nothing compared to the 'r' in 'tardes,' which he has to repeat multiple times.
The couple has held several teaching sessions on TikTok, moments that they both find highly entertaining. Their efforts highlight the fun and sometimes frustrating process of learning a new language together.
