A Map Built with Citizen Collaboration
This map of power outages is built from reports sent by users of CiberCuba through social media. Thanks to the active participation of citizens, who share their experiences and report interruptions in their localities, it is possible to maintain an updated and detailed record of the energy situation across the country.
Methodology Behind the Power Outage Map
The information presented in the interactive power outage map is generated from an advanced data processing system that integrates artificial intelligence and semantic analysis techniques. This system analyzes comments and posts on social media to identify and verify outage reports.
Using regular expressions and text-matching algorithms, the system extracts key data such as the duration and location of the outages directly from the text of the comments. This methodology allows the map to be kept up-to-date with the most recent situation, providing a useful tool both for residents seeking information about their locality and for analysts interested in Cuba's energy situation.
The background color in each province on the map indicates the average duration of reported outages: a darker color indicates longer durations, while a lighter color indicates shorter outages. By clicking on any marker on the map, one can access specific details such as the number of reports and the average duration of outages in each municipality.
