A judge in Georgia dismissed two charges this Thursday in the legal proceedings against former President Donald Trump for alleged interference in the 2020 elections, where he lost to the current U.S. President, Joe Biden.

Judge Scott McAffee also eliminated a third charge against other defendants in the same case, ruling that state prosecutors lacked the authority to bring three charges related to the alleged filing of false documents in a federal court. This decision came after accepting a motion from Trump's defense team.

However, McAffee upheld the charge of racketeering, allowing that investigation to continue. Trump and his 14 co-defendants have pleaded not guilty, with his defense labeling the accusations as part of a "witch hunt."

This case is one of several legal challenges faced by the Republican candidate in the upcoming presidential election on November 5. Among these is a trial in Washington, D.C., for his role in attempting to overturn the 2020 election results, according to the EFE news agency.

Previously, Florida Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed a case against Trump for taking confidential documents from the White House. The business mogul was found guilty by a New York jury of 34 charges, including tax fraud and falsifying business records to cover up a sexual scandal.

Nevertheless, a judge decided to postpone the sentencing related to payments made to actress Stormy Daniels to buy her silence before the 2016 elections. The new date set is November 26, after the presidential elections, unless the case is dismissed earlier, as reported by Telemundo 51.

Trump will face Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the upcoming elections.
