Several Cubans have come together to secure a wheelchair for actor Jorge Losada, who is in need of one but cannot afford it. From the United States, the administrator of the Pesca en Miami project, which organizes donations for those in need in Cuba, announced on Facebook that he has a wheelchair available for the artist.

"If there is any family member or friend here who follows me and knows him, please write to me at (786) 685-9365," he said.

Additionally, in Miami, actor Erich Concepción also found a wheelchair and expressed his desire to raise funds from the exiled community to provide Losada with food and essential medications for the elderly.

"Anti-decubitus creams, vitamins, and more. I have a few days to achieve this. Help me with that," he requested on Facebook.

A few hours ago, Jorge Losada sent a message to his friends and followers to thank them for all the outpouring of solidarity he has received since his situation became known.

"Thank you very much for the displays of such great affection that an artist needs to be able to live (...). I have received hundreds of calls and messages where people have been concerned about my health and my needs. I can only humbly say thank you...," he expressed.

The message was shared on the Facebook profile of Luis Lacosta, art director at the ICAIC, who had requested help last Saturday to buy a wheelchair for his friend. Lacosta pointed out that he had approached the Council of Performing Arts of the Ministry of Culture and UNEAC, and was told that they did not have any, highlighting the authorities' neglect towards artists in the sector.

"Things are not easy here, not even for famous actors," he emphasized.

Health Struggles of Jorge Losada

In recent times, Jorge Losada has faced various health issues. In April, he had to be hospitalized at the Manuel Fajardo Hospital in Havana due to several health complications. In February 2021, he underwent surgery, which left him with severe anemia. Due to the shortage of medicines in Cuba, Lacosta turned to the internet to obtain the necessary drugs.

"He is facing problems; a significant anemia has been detected despite his daily nutrition. It seems his body has an issue, and he has been prescribed Inferón and Trofin or another medication to overcome the anemia," he detailed at the time.

Immediately, several people showed solidarity and proposed ideas to quickly get the medicines to him.

Losada, a renowned actor of film, theater, and television, recovered and participated in the 2023 Cuban telenovela Renacer, an experience he described as "unique."

"Because I am a gossip in the show, but in real life, I am not. In the telenovela, I talk badly about everyone, and I don’t even know why," he explained in an interview with actor Ulises González for Cubaactores.

"And perhaps it will be my last appearance, and I will give that bad... image," he added in a heartfelt video.
