One Dead in Palmetto Expressway Crash After Driver Hits Tree

One person is dead and three others are injured following an accident on the Palmetto Expressway after a driver collided with a tree. According to the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), the incident occurred on Friday just before noon in the Miami Gardens area, on eastbound SR 826 near NW 17th Avenue.

The tragic accident led to the closure of the eastbound lanes of the expressway, west of the Golden Glades interchange, lasting several hours on Friday afternoon. Aerial footage showed a Honda Accord sedan with side damage and a tarp on the road. Firefighters, Florida Highway Patrol officers, and Miami Gardens Police were on the scene.

Official information released by Local 10 indicates that the driver swerved to avoid debris, lost control, and crashed into a tree. The victim, a man seated behind the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two other passengers sustained severe injuries and were airlifted to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital with critical injuries.
