Cuban Mother Outraged Over Poor Conditions at Son's School for New Term

A Cuban mother has taken to social media to express her outrage over the poor conditions in the classroom where her son will be attending classes for the upcoming school term, which begins on Monday.

Lianet Oyasita, a resident of Havana, shared a video on her Facebook wall showing the fourth-grade classroom, clarifying that the other classrooms are in the same condition. The video reveals the room's deterioration, with a ceiling stained from recent rainwater leaks and a floor still covered in debris because no one has come to clean it.

"I just feel like crying knowing that my son is going to study here. Just one heavy rain, look at that ceiling and that floor," the woman said indignantly.

She then showed the door, which is practically falling off. "Look at this, no security at all," she emphasized.

In another post, Lianet shared several photos as a way to denounce what her child and other students will have to face.

"I will escalate this until Díaz-Canel sees it, and I want answers with immediate changes. I don't understand why children have to start the school year under these terrible, awful conditions," she questioned.

The images show the place with broken windows, only two lamps on the ceiling, walls full of dampness, and the poor state of the desks where the children will have to write.

"Which child would want to go to school under such terrible conditions? Who can concentrate at a desk like this when their hands get pricked, their uniforms get torn, and their books get damaged?" she detailed.

"This is disrespectful, so many children having to start the school year under such disgusting circumstances. What role does the local Education Department play in the schools? Someone tell me, and I won't stop," she concluded.
