Man Arrested in Hialeah for Allegedly Posing as Uber Driver to Assault Women
Description not available

Miami police have arrested Yadir Alejandro Gongora, a 40-year-old Cuban resident of Hialeah, on charges of assaulting two women in separate incidents while posing as a rideshare driver.

Currently, Gongora faces two counts of sexual assault and kidnapping, related to incidents that took place before his initial arrest in October 2023 for a similar crime.

Details of the Assaults

In the first incident, a 22-year-old woman awoke to find herself being assaulted by Gongora in the back of a vehicle, according to a report by Local 10. The victim had left a bar in Brickell around 2 a.m. on August 20, 2023. She initially woke up in the vehicle driven by another man and later found herself in the parking lot of a Publix at 134 SW 13th St. with Gongora beside her, which was not her intended destination. The woman subsequently reported the incident to the police and underwent a rape examination.

The second assault occurred on September 29, 2023, when a 21-year-old woman woke up outside a Navarro Discount Pharmacy near her home at 7 a.m., with no recollection of the prior night. She discovered her underwear in her bag and noticed that her phone, wallet, and camera were missing. DNA evidence linked Gongora to both cases through records in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database.

In October, Gongora was accused of posing as an Uber driver and assaulting another woman. According to police reports, he picked up two women from a nightclub in Wynwood and sexually assaulted one of them in South Beach. Gongora pleaded guilty to theft in that case and received two years of probation in April, while charges of sexual assault and armed robbery were dropped.

After being identified by the victims and subsequently arrested, Gongora admitted during an interview with detectives that he offered rides to people leaving clubs in the Wynwood and downtown Miami areas, accepting cash or app payments but claimed he worked independently, not for any rideshare company.

Gongora, who prefers to transport men because he believes women do not have money to pay for rides, is being held without bail at the Metrowest Detention Center, according to online records. Miami police are investigating whether Gongora may have victimized more women.
