Cubans Hand Out Cakes on a Hialeah Street

Monday, August 26, 2024 by Madison Pena

Yandry Roque Pando, the young owner of Ena’s Secret Bake bakery, alongside other Cubans, handed out cakes on a street in Hialeah.

“My people, let's stop traffic here to give away cake,” Yandry announced in a video shared on his Facebook profile, all while “Añoranza por la Conga” played in the background.

Accompanied by several individuals, they temporarily halted traffic to distribute the sweets. While Yandry did not explain the reason behind this initiative, both the givers and receivers of the cakes appeared to be very happy.

Comments on the post included praises such as, “What a beautiful, humane gesture,” “You’re the champion!”, and “This is how Cubans are, we give from the heart.”

Yandry, along with his two grandparents, has successfully run a bakery in Hialeah, and they have gradually expanded to other cities. Their most popular product is the traditional birthday cake box.

Last June, Yandry set up a van in a parking lot in Homestead, where dessert enthusiasts flocked to purchase cakes, marquesitas, and meringues, among other sweets.
