A young motorcyclist died instantly this Sunday in the Boyeros municipality of Havana following a fatal accident in which no other vehicles were involved, according to various sources on the Facebook group Accidentes Buses & Camiones. The victim, named "Yoan," was around 22 years old and lived in the Embil neighborhood of Boyeros.

Details of the Tragic Incident

There are at least a couple of versions regarding the circumstances of the accident, but all agree that the motorcyclist appeared to be speeding.

"The young man was going at a high speed and tried to avoid a pothole in the middle of the street. When he turned, he hit the curb and fell to the other side of the street. He died instantly. It was very sad. I was there; it happened in front of my workplace. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. He seemed to be very well-loved because people arrived crying for him, and he was so young. May God rest his soul," wrote Facebook user Gleydis Claro.

"Such sadness! I was passing by at that moment. He was a 22-year-old who didn't crash but crossed lanes and died from the impact with the curb. There were family members there crying. How sad! They say he was speeding," added Aylin Rojas.

"A young man on a motorcycle, avoiding a pothole, fell off his bike, crashed, and died instantly. A friend of mine was riding his motorcycle behind him and witnessed it," shared Henry González.

Another account suggests the motorcyclist hit a pole at high speed and "smashed his head."

The tragic event occurred near a bus stop for the P10 route at the bridge of 100 and Boyeros.

A close friend of the victim described him as "an incredibly cheerful guy who got along with everyone, a party lover."

"My God, I can't believe it. Poor little sister and mother!" concluded the same source.

As of the closing of this article, no further details about the tragedy have been released, adding to a long list of traffic accidents that have painted a grim picture on Cuban roads this summer.

In recent weeks, there has been a reported increase in severe accidents across the country, many unfortunately resulting in fatalities.

Despite the public's perception of a rise in traffic accidents in recent months, Cuban authorities stated in early July that there were 543 fewer incidents in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period the previous year.

On the official television program Mesa Redonda, Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Transit Organ of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), also reported 81 fewer deaths (a 23% reduction) and a decrease of 151 injured (5%) between January and June of this year compared to the same period in 2023.
