Cubans Rally Against Power Outages and Water Shortages in Havana

Sunday, August 25, 2024 by James Rodriguez

Dozens of residents from the municipality of San Miguel del Padrón in Havana took to the streets on Saturday night to protest against the severe electricity cuts and water shortages they have been experiencing recently.

Chanting "turn on the water" and banging pots and pans, a group of Cubans demonstrated in the San Francisco de Paula area, marching through the streets until they reached the Calzada de Güines.

"Right now, Cuba is on the streets, today, August 24, 2024, San Francisco de Paula. Right now, 11:36 pm," reported X user Yanko Mesa, who shared videos of the protesters.

The protest comes after days of severe issues with the supply of potable water in the Cuban capital and an increase in power outages, caused by the collapse of the national electro-energy system (SEN).
